Welcome to Miramonte High School Music! We offer a wide array of courses to engage students of all backgrounds and experiences. We study and perform music from all over the world, from Latin America, to Eastern Europe, to right here in California. It is important to me that this is a space where you feel welcome and celebrated.

Digital Music Production 🎛️

In this brand new course, students use computer-based technology to create original music. Students use tools such as loops, samples, and live audio to independently and collaboratively create new musical ideas. Students in this course explore musical “mirrors,” music that is personally familiar to them, as well as musical “windows,” music that is new and unfamiliar. All of this happens in the context of a low-stakes collaborative classroom environment where students can engage in music regardless of their previous musical experience.

Coming Fall 2026... Digital Music Production 2! 🎛️ 🎤

In Digital Music Production 2 (DMP 2) students build upon the musical and technological skills that they developed in Digital Music Production. Students in DMP 2 apply their technological skills from Soundtrap to professional-grade Digital Audio Workstations like Logic Pro, FL Studio, and/or Ableton Live. Musically, students take on projects that are more structurally nuanced, exploring rhythm, harmony, and melody in greater depth. Importantly, all of this continues to take place in a low-stakes collaborative classroom environment where students can engage in music regardless of their previous musical experience.

Musical Theater Workshop 🎭

From Wicked to Willy Wonka, students of all backgrounds and abilities sing, dance, and act in Musical Theater Workshop. This multi-level, multi-disciplinary course meets during school hours and is open to all students with an interest in expressing themselves through singing, dancing, and acting.Students perform in large ensemble numbers, small groups, and occasionally, as soloists. Students in this class will participate in the annual Spring musical (e.g. Hadestown) as well as the annual student-driven Broadway Showcase.

Chamber Singers (honors) (aka Mixed Choir, Choral Performance 1, 2, 3, +4) 🎙️

Chamber Singers is an advanced course that provides the opportunity for experienced vocalists to sing in community. This class offers a fun and positive environment for singers to improve their vocal and musical skills. Students will achieve greater confidence and vocal independence, develop their musical ear, and learn various styles of singing. Students will sing repertoire from a diverse array of musical styles, working together to perform and share music with friends, family, and the community. This class can count toward the Arts Distinction (6 or more VPA classes over the course of 4 years).

Jazz Band (honors) (aka Jazz Ensemble) 🎷

Jazz Band is a performance-based ensemble of intermediate and advanced high school instrumentalists. Students with experience playing traditional and non-traditional jazz instruments will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students to perform musical works from the 1920s to the present. Students in Jazz Band serve as musical ambassadors to the Miramonte Community, performing at events such as Back to School Night, Arts Alive Week, and Open House. Notably, students in Jazz Band also have the opportunity to hone their small ensemble skills, rehearsing in small jazz combos every Friday. Students in Jazz Band are eligible to receive the Honors designation their fourth year.
